Okay, in light of the lull in discussion as of late I'd like to throw an idea out there and get some feedback from the other members here.
If you've been following the other stuck groups then you may have come across this story:
www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/11/08/toilet.man.ap/index.html
Now I've heard of other news stories in the past where people have claimed to have gotten glued to the toilet seat in a public restroom but I've always been a little skeptical of the claims. Yes, there strong adhesives such as superglue that are fast-setting and could glue a person to the toilet if enough was used but the drying time for such glues is so short that it would seem implausible for someone to actually pull such a prank unless they knew for certain that someone was going to use the toilet immediately after they applied the glue. Otherwise the glue would dry before any potential victims sat in it. It sounds a bit like an urban myth. Most likely the individuals in question glued themselves to the toilet in order to seek monetary gains from suing the business.
That being the case, what would everyone think of sending a letter to the show Mythbusters asking them to investigate this myth? They have already tested a similar myth, that of the woman who claimed the toilet on an airplane flushed while she was sitting on it and she ended up stuck to it by the resulting vacuum until the plane landed. Basically that myth got busted, not enough vacuum and no way there could have been that good of a seal between her buttocks and the seat of the toilet. The show is always welcoming suggestions for myths to test. Why not the superglue-on-the-toilet-seat scenario? The only problem is how do we get them to test it by having Kari Byron put on a thong and sit on the seat instead of one of the male cast members?
I think the best chance of success would be to include it in a suggested list of various glue-related myths that they could test in the same episode, if for no other reason than to detract from the notion that the request is coming from a bunch of people with a stuck fetish who just want to see Kari stuck in glue. It needs to sound like a serious request. What we need then is a list of several scenarios for them to test to try and peak their interest. So far I've come up with the following:
1)superglue on the toilet seat- plausible prank or myth?
2)classic Krazy Glue commercial where a man in a hard hat was suspended using a single drop of glue - plausible or exaggerated dramatization?
3)can you seal a nail puncture in a tire using superglue? (this was actually a reader-supplied tip published in Petersen's 4Wheel and Offroad magazine).
4)What is the best way to remove superglue?
Does anybody have any more glue-related questions to ask? I'd like to get them to try testing something with rat-trap glue but I'm drawing a blank as to what to ask them to do.
