I've been impressed with what I've read on this board and site about the power of hypnosis.
Jessica has gone to a hypnotist, and been programmed, for lack of a better word, with an impressive array of triggers.
Phantom has talked about how he hypnotized a former girlfriend with freeze triggers.
Now, this makes me wonder, can I perform hypnosis as well, despite the fact that I've never had any training in it at all?
It's something I've fantasized about being able to do. I've always had a fantasy about hypnotizing a woman, and making her respond to triggers, just like Jessica does.
I'm wondering if this is something I can make happen on my own, or does it require a professional?

You'd probably get alot of different answers on this one. There are alot of prefessionals out there who I am sure would tell you that you'd need special training to become a real hypnotist. But they are making alot of money off of this trick so of course they are going to protect their investment. The real truth is no you don't need to be a professional in fact just by reading a few inducing trances you'll learn words and phrases and idea's I've never been formally trained and I have had much success. WHat I do recomend is a small working knowledge of psychology and alot of patience. if you need any advice feel free to contact me on yahoo I'll give you the tricks of the trade free of charge

Thanks! I was hoping that would be the case.
Judging by the accounts I've been reading here, I didn't think that anyone had professional training, as no one has mentioned it.
All the same, that is very heart warming, as it means that my dream/fantasy isn't as far out of reach as I thought.

Silverman,
To answer your question, or at least from my personal perspective, is that you or anybody else can hypnotize anybody that's willing to be hypnotized. I was first going to study hypnosis and place it in a magic act I was doing at the time, then I read up on Past Life Regressions and decided I'd study hypnosis for that route, well I read a few books on the subject and was lucky enough to find one of my sister's friends interested in it and allowed me to try it with her. It worked, she was amazed and so was I. And the rest as they say is history. I've been 'doing' hypnosis for the past 4-5 years completely self taught. I've helped people lose weight and all the other 'normal' things people go to hypnotist for, but every now and then I find someone who is willing to try for the more 'abnormal' or to expierement with it and then that's where the fun comes in.
Hope this helps a little bit,

Just what can and can't be done. For example if some is good enough can they hypnotize someone into say having sex with someone they find totally repulsive? Can you program a person to kill someone? Or is that just plain Hollywood type. I did see a hypnotist put on a show back when I was in highschool it was awesome!!

Or is that just plain Hollywood type. I did see a hypnotist put on a show back when I was in highschool it was awesome!! The simple answer to your question Halsca is no. The general contention is that you can't make somebody do anything while under hypnosis that they won't do if they weren't hypnotized. Now that being said, let's take your question about programing someone to kill another person. I would suppose you could 'change' the conditions and make it work. Let's say you have a woman and you give her a general suggestion that she would kill her husband the next time she sees him. Well that wouldn't work. However, if you possibly changed the condtions so that she wouldn't recognize him and think he's an intruder in her home and she needs to protect herself in anyway possible, then it might and I stress "MIGHT" work. I've never tried to do this, but I should think it might be plausable. But most of the stuff you see is pure 100% Hollywood. Just my 2cents [glow=white,10,300]Phantom of the Frozen One[/glow]
